Narasimha Jayanti annual Indian festival
Narasimha Jayanti is an annual Hindu festival celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to the Hindu calendar, Narasimha Jayanti falls on the fourteenth day (Chaturdashi) of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) in the month of Vaishakha, which typically falls between April and May in the Gregorian calendar.
Lord Narasimha is depicted as a half-lion and half-human figure who represents the combined power of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Shakti. He is believed to have appeared on earth to protect his devotees from evil forces and to restore righteousness.
On Narasimha Jayanti, devotees observe fasts, visit temples, and offer prayers to Lord Narasimha. They also perform special puja and rituals, including Abhishekam (bathing the idol with holy water), Homa (offering of sacred fire), and Bhajans (devotional songs) in honor of Lord Narasimha.
The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion across various parts of India, particularly in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, where it is considered one of the most significant festivals of the year.
